The Beagle Dog
The Beagle dog originates from Great Britain dating back to the 1300's; it is one of the oldest members of the hound
group.
The Beagle retains an excellent sense of smell. With this sense it can zero in on just about any trail
which it will follow and easily wander off if not watched closely. Another unique trait is its melodious bay. The Beagle as we know it today, which looks much like a miniature foxhound, was introduced
to North America after the American Civil War. It makes a loving and gentle family companion and today
is one of the most popular dogs in North America.
Those of you who follow the television series Star Trek the Next Generation, will notice that Captain Archer has a beagle on board ship, his companion Porthos.
