The Bichon Frise Dog

The Bichon Frise dog originates from the Mediterranean region of Europe dating back to ancient times. It shares some ancestry with the Maltese and Havanese. It became quite popular during the fourteenth century in Italy, France and later Spain. Acceptance dropped in the following centuries and did not revive again until the 1950's when it was imported to North America. A new hair cut in the 1960's brought a surge in popularity. The AKC recognized the breed in 1971. Today it is a common breed enjoying considerable acceptance. Although it is a lively and perky little companion that wants to be included in all that goes on in the house, it is also content to warm its owner's lap.
