The Curly-Coated Retriever Dog

The Curly-Coated Retriever dog is one of the oldest of the retriever breeds. It originates from Great Britain dating back to around the 1700's. It enjoys more popularity in Great Britain than it does in North America. It is an accomplished and versatile hunting dog, but serves equally well as a faithful and well adjusted family dog.

Temperament It is an energetic retriever that loves to work on land or in the water. It is also an even tempered, gentle and sensitive companion. It is intelligent and learns quickly.

Living Conditions Can live outdoors in moderate climates, but does best with access to indoor living.

Coat It has a unique coat of small, thick, tight curls. The curls lie close to the body; the coat is water resistant.
Grooming The Curly-Coated Retriever dog requires minimal grooming.
Colors Black or Liver
Height and Weight Ideal weight is 60 to 70 pounds (27.25 to 31.75 kg) while the ideal height is 23 to27 inches (58.5 to 68.5 cm). Variations may occur in individual animals.
Life Expectancy 10 to 12 years.
Group The AKC places the Curly Coated Retriever dog in the sporting group.
