The Dandie Dinmont Terrier Dog

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier dog is unique both in appearance and in name. It is a long dog with shorter legs than the other dogs in the terrier group. It obtained it's name from the character of Dandie Dinmont and his dogs in Sir Walter Scott's novel Guy Mannering. It makes a good watchdog without being an excessive barker.

Temperament True to it's terrier nature, it is independent, feisty, and ready for adventure, hunting, or action of any kind. It makes a loyal and affectionate companion.

Guard dog Ability Not very good.
Ease of Training Average, requires consistent and sometimes firm training.
Living Conditions It makes a good city or country dog. It does best when allowed to sleep indoors while having its exercise requirements met outdoors.
Exercise Requires daily exercise.
Coat The coat is a mixture of harsh (but not wiry) and soft hair, giving it a crispy texture. The hair is about two inches long.
Grooming Requires brushing about twice a week.
Colors Pepper or Mustard
Height and Weight Weight range is 18 to 24 pounds (8.2 to 10.9 kg) while the height range is 8 to 11 inches (20.3 to 28 cm). Variations may occur in individual animals.
Life Expectancy 12 to 14 years.
Group The AKC places the Dandie Dinmont Terrier dog in the Terrier group.
