The Doberman Pinscher Dog
The Doberman Pinscher dog, sometimes misspelled as the doberman pincher, originates from Germany dating back to the 1800's. The breed was the creation of Louis
Doberman, a tax collector by trade. He wanted to develop a guard dog for protection while working. It is believed he
used Rottweilers, German Pinschers, Weinaraners, Manchester Terriers, and possibly English Greyhounds to produce the Doberman.
Popularity of the new breed grew very rapidly in Europe with the first breed club being formed in 1899. The breed
was introduced in America in 1908 where it also began a steady rise in fame. Popularity peaked in 1977 when the Doberman was
the second most popular breed in America. Currently it ranks in the low twenties. Today's Doberman, besides being a
faithful and devoted companion, also excels as a watch dog and guard dog. It is used by police and security companies
all over the world.
