The Herding Dogs
The herding dogs have one thing in common - they have the capacity and intelligence to control the movement of other animals. If
properly trained not only will they do this well, but they will love to show off this ability. The history of dogs guarding and
herding cattle goes back to ancient times. Today many herding dogs are household pets and never lay eyes on a farm animal.
However, the herding or guarding instinct remains.
Some will gently try to herd what is available - other pets, children, even a group of adults! Most of these dogs make excellent
companions. They show physical prowess combined with intelligence and loyalty. They require lots of exercise.
And last but not least in my books is the Shetland Sheepdog. To be honest it is my favourite. I admit that I am biased, probably because I used to own a very cute, loving and affectionate Sheltie! See a picture of her by following the link to the Shetland Sheepdog, or see her at the bottom of the home page. The link also includes a couple of short video clips.
