The Lakeland Terrier Dog

The Lakeland Terrier dog originates from England. It shares its ancestry with the Border Terrier, Bedlington Terrier, and Fox Terrier. It became famous for both fox and vermin hunting. Today it is most popular as a show dog, but only moderately popular as a pet and companion.

Temperament It is intelligent, friendly, and even tempered. It loves to run, hunt, and explore. It is independent, strong willed, and can be stubborn. It is fearless and very energetic. It requires consistent and patient training.

Children - Below average, supervision required with young children.

Guard dog Ability Below average
Ease of Training Below average because of its independent and strong will.
Living Conditions Can live outside in moderate climates but does best when living indoors while having its exercise requirements met outdoors.
Exercise Requires a lot of daily exercise such as a lively game, a good run, exploring in a safe area, or a couple hours of hunting.
Coat It has a double coat. The outer coat is wavy, hard and wiry. The inner coat is soft and shorter.
Grooming Requires brushing once a week.
Colors Comes in multiple colors: black, blue, red, wheaten, blue and tan, and black and tan.
Height and Weight Ideal weight is 15 to 17 pounds (6.8 to 7.7kg) while the ideal height is 13 to 15 inches (33 to 38 cm). Variations may occur in individual animals.
Life Expectancy 13 to 15 years.
Group The AKC places the Lakeland Terrier dog in the Terrier group.
