The Lhasa Apso Dog
The Lhasa Apso dog originates from Tibet. Its original purpose was to act as a monastery sentinel for Buddhist monks. It was also believed to bring good luck. Because of its importance in the Tibetan culture it was treated with respect and admiration. It is believed
that the name Lhasa Apso is derived from the dog's name in Tibet where it was called the barking sentinel dog.
The Lhasa Apso dog arrived in the Western world in the 1930's. It was admitted by the AKC into the terrier group in 1935.
It is not a terrier and was later moved to the Non-Sporting group.
It makes a great companion, but despite its cuddly looks, it is not a lap dog.
