The Miniature Bull Terrier dog originates from Great Britain where its ancestors were used for ratting and dog fighting. At one time the Miniature and the full sized Bull Terrier were considered the same breed. They were interbred and came from the same ancestry. Separation of the two breeds occurred in 1939 when the English Kennel Club recognized the Miniature as a separate breed. In spite of its smaller size, it can be just as vicious as its larger cousin. It was recognized by the AKC in 1991. It is not as popular as the full sized Bull Terrier,
but popularity will likely increase as more breeders recognize the Miniature Bull Terrier as a lively and playful companion.
