The Miniature Pinscher Dog
The Miniature Pinscher dog, sometimes misspelled as Miniature Pincher, is one of the most popular toy dogs in North America. It is often referred to as the "King of Toys". The Miniature Pinscher is not, as some people assume, a miniature version of the larger Doberman Pinscher. It was developed in Europe dating back to the 1600's and predates the Doberman. Its ancestors likely include the German Pinscher, Dachshund and Italian Greyhound. Traits from these breeds can be seen in the Miniature Pinscher.
Although small in size, these dogs have a seemingly endless supply of energy and require lots of exercise. Because of its fun loving and implusive nature some people refer to this breed as the "Court Jester!"
The AKC recognized the breed in 1929.
