The Miscellaneous Dogs
The Miscellaneous Dogs group is a 'holding group' that is used to evaluate the interest and activity level of
breeds before they are admitted to one of the other categories. Dogs in this group are allowed to compete at AKC sponsored competitions but, as one would expect, only within the this class. As well, they cannot accumulate championship points.
The term 'Miscellaneous group' or 'holding group' may have negative connotations for some, but that is not the intent. Think of it more as a proving ground. Each breed has its own merits and uses. As interest in the breeds spread and activities increase, movement to another class is sure to follow. If you own one or more of these fine breeds, do not let the terminology in any way diminish the pride you as an owner have every right to feel.
