The Weimaraner Dog

The Weimaraner dog originates from Germany dating back to the early 1800's. It was develop as an all around hunting dog that could deal with all sizes of game including deer and even bear. Breeding and ownership of this breed were closely controlled by the German Weimaraner Club. The breed was first imported into America in 1929. Today it is popular both in Europe and North America.

Temperament It is obedient but can be strong willed if not controlled. It is energetic and loves to be on the go. It makes a friendly and loyal companion for the owner who is willing to spend the time and energy required.

Children - Good with older children.

Living Conditions Can live outside in warm climates, but does best when living indoors with it's family while meeting its exercise requirements outside.

Coat It has a single layered short dense coat lying close to the body.
Grooming Minimal grooming required.
Colors Solid colors ranging from mouse gray to silver gray.
Height and Weight Weight range is 70 to 86 pounds (31.8 to 39 kg) while the height range is 23 to 27 inches (58.4 to 68.6 cm). Variations may occur in individual animals.
Life Expectancy 11 to 13 years.
Group The AKC places the Weimaraner dog in the sporting group.
