The Welsh Springer Spaniel Dog

The Welsh Springer Spaniel dog originates from Wales dating back to the 1600's or earlier. At one time English and Welsh Springer Spaniels were shown together as one breed. It was recognized as a separate breed by the AKC in 1906. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is an all around versatile hunter. It loves to flush and retrieve on land or water.

Temperament It is a loving and devoted, even tempered companion. It has lots of energy and loves to play, hunt, retrieve (on land or water), and explore.

Living Conditions Can live outdoors in moderate climates, but does best when living indoors with it's family.

Coat It has a straight flat dense coat of medium length. There is noticeable feathering on the back of the front legs, on the hind legs, on the chest and abdomen, on the ears, and on the tail. The coat is water resistant.
Grooming Requires grooming once or twice a week.
Colors Red on a white background.
Height and Weight Weight range is 35 to 45 pounds (15.9 to 20.4 kg) while the height range is 17 to 19 inches (43.2 to 48.3 cm). Variations may occur in individual animals.
Life Expectancy 12 to 15 years.
Group The AKC places the Welsh Springer Spaniel dog in the sporting group.
